Every time you open an app, pourquoi.app asks why. You answer in a second, and nothing gets blocked.
The core of the app is free
Animated demo: when you open an app, pourquoi.app asks why. A first answer you stand by, and the app opens; a second one with no reason, and you close it.
“I really like the idea behind this app. App blockers don’t work at all for me, I’m really undisciplined... So the approach of asking yourself why works well for me. When I tap ‘I opened this app out of habit,’ that’s usually enough to make me put my phone down. ☺️”
“This app has literally changed my relationship with my phone. It doesn’t stop me from using it, but it really helps me become aware of how I use it, so I use it for something worthwhile!! A little revolution 🤩”
“Great app! I scroll less than before”
Too rigid, too easy to get around. Here nothing is blocked: one question, and you decide.
Without a blocker: how it helps →
Your thumb gets there on its own. pourquoi.app gives you a second to notice.
Social media: how it helps →
Your apps stay put. You choose when they’re worth your time.
Screen time: how it helps → Also for:
Three simple steps. No blocking.
You decide which apps are covered. As soon as you open one, pourquoi.app asks: “why are you opening this app?”.
A short answer is enough. By saying what you came to do, you turn a habit into a conscious choice.
Your answers and stats show where non-intentional time goes, with no score and no guilt.

On iPhone, access is shared through Apple Family Sharing. On Android, sharing through Play Family Library is not available. Prices are indicative: the price shown by the App Store or Google Play at purchase applies.
The best answer is your own week. Each time you open one of the apps you picked, pourquoi.app asks you why. When you realize you’re there for no reason, you tend to close it sooner: that’s how the time you spend on your phone goes down. Compare your screen time from one week to the next, in your phone’s settings or in the app. We don’t promise a number: everyone starts from their own habits, and you decide what changes.
Your answers and system usage data stay on your phone. Anonymous, optional app usage statistics may be shared with Firebase if you accept. The site uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity only if you accept cookies. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Yes. When you finish onboarding, you can start a 7-day Premium trial through the App Store or Google Play, on monthly or yearly. You can cancel before the 7 days end. After that, the app stays free to use (unlimited questions, limited stats).
Because changing a habit doesn't show in 24 hours. The free tier lets you ask the question every day. Full access helps you keep the thread: notice what keeps coming back, see what shifts, understand what truly feeds your attention, with no blocking and no guilt. It also funds an independent app with no ads and no data resale.
Open Settings › your name › Subscriptions (iOS) or Google Play › Payments & subscriptions (Android), select pourquoi.app, then cancel. Premium access remains active until the end of the paid period.
Depending on the platform, the system may let you close without answering (on Android, you must answer to continue). Either way, we advise against it: the question only helps if you answer. Skipping weakens the whole thing: without a reason given, pourquoi.app can barely help you.
pourquoi.app is designed for iOS 26 and later: some interactions (like the “Ask Why” action in Shortcuts) feel smoother and nicer to use day to day.
No. Granting Screen Time enriches “My stats”, but the app works fully without it.
pourquoi.app is available on Google Play. Features match iOS, with platform-specific permissions (overlay, usage statistics).
On iPhone, Premium is shared through Apple Family Sharing. On Android, sharing through Play Family Library is not available.
Premium free for 7 days, and the core of the app stays free after that.
